Mum Working From Home Explains How to Juggle Business and Family Responsibilities

Mum Working From HomeMum Working From Home Explains This Difficult Trade-Off

As a mum working from home, I’m no longer tied to a traditional job working for a boss. I’m no longer one of the millions who relies on someone else for their paycheck in an inflexible job leaving them with no time to look after themselves or their families.

My family, like most, needs lots of attention, and caring for my husband and daughter requires substantial time and effort. That’s not to mention our dog who needs his daily three mile run!

Fitting all my commitments and responsibilities around a full time job was nigh on impossible, leaving me feeling like a hamster on a treadmill going at an ever-increasing speed, powerless to stop. I’m sure this is a feeling many of you can sympathise with, and worst for me was not being around for my family when they needed it. Now I’m a mum working from home life is very different.

Mum Working From Home Is Finally Able To Live Her Life

Not even being able to take my daughter to school was something I hated, but now I’m my own boss and I’m a mum working from home I have the freedom to do as I please, which makes a huge difference to both my family and me!

Suddenly having all this freedom means you need to manage your time carefully and maintain motivation – I’ll be honest with you, it’s not easy! Try the following tips to ensure you remain on the right track and can make the most of working from home:

Mum Working From Home Explains What You Can Do About It

Prioritise: This is crucial, and one of the most simple ways of achieving this is by making a list. From menial daily tasks to important event-organising or similar, lists allow you stay on track and can stop you from waking up at night, suddenly worrying about something you’ve forgotten to do – unable to get back to sleep. Know the feeling?

Motivation: As mentioned earlier, when you’re working for yourself, motivation is one of the key ingredients for success. Only you can be responsible for this, so make sure you do all you can to put yourself in the right frame of mind. Keeping track of your goals and rewarding yourself when you meet them should keep you motivated.

Sleep: Countless tests have proven that sleeping enough improves concentration and work ethic no end. Know when it’s time to switch off and try to get yourself into a pattern. You’ll find yourself being far more productive and you’ll feel the benefits in everything you do.

Exercise: If you struggle getting out of bed, then perhaps this might not sound the best idea, but believe me – a brisk walk or jog for thirty minutes in the mornings really wakes you up and sets you up for your day. At first this will be hard, but after a while it’ll become second nature, and you may even come to enjoy it, while reaping the rewards at the same time.

Prepare: Planning in advance and setting out what you want to do will make you feel more productive, and if you feel productive then chances are you probably will be! This improves your motivation and the benefits are fantastic. Being a mum working from home requires huge amounts of planning!

Personality Development Can Help You Create Success

Personality development may be a term that you are NOT familiar with; however it’s quite similar to personal development. Let’s just say that if you have a bad personality no one will ever want to work with you.

Developing yourself is just as important to learning the skills that you need to refine for your business to help you to become more successful. I want to share with you how you can do this, in order to create a new life that you absolutely love, and will be attractive to others

What is Personality Development?

Do you really want to know what personality development is?

It’s one of the most important things that you should work on as you plan to build and grow a business. How does it work exactly? Your personality may or may not be all that great depending on something that you have been through and it might surprise you if you find that people don’t really like you.

It could be that you and those you work with or meet along the way will be much different than you are and that is okay too. Regardless of whether you see eye to eye with someone or not doesn't matter when you work on who you are each day. You are worth investing in, so why not do it!

Before you know it, you will find that you are able to connect with just about anyone. This is great when you can make connections like this because if you are in network marketing or marketing online you will be able to make

connections much easier with anyone you wish!

Personality Development and Attraction Marketing

Did you know that personality development and attraction marketing go hand in hand?

Think about it; when you market you need to convey who you are, because that is who you will mesh with the best. It's not necessary to have a college degree to see that people like other people that are just like them. Think about it; if you go to a party you tend to gravitate to people that are just like you.

The same is true of network marketing and those that come across your website or blog can see your personality in what you write, and will feel something about you one way or the other.

At this point they can form an opinion of you, and that opinion could be good or bad, but it matters not! Remember, you won't get them all, but the idea is to attract as many as you can in your niche.

Once you attract people to your website, it's time to give them a reason to stick around. Once they stick around, you need to build that relationship, and really work on nurturing it. The idea is to position yourself as an expert so that you can teach people what you already know, and show them how you became a success.

Are you spending time on personality development and marketing? You CANNOT have one without the others, so it's time to get busy on developing your business the right way.

Halberton Participates In The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

While the Royal family were leading the celebrations in London over the Diamond Jubilee long weekend from 2nd to 5th June 2012, the rest of the country were joining in with street parties, concerts and other events to mark Queen Elizabeth's 60 year reign on the throne.  The UK went into Diamond Jubilee meltdown.  As a nation we all got into the spirit of it and it really was fun and I loved being a part of it. When asked by neighbours and friends what we (my family and I) might participate in, I said the whole lot. And we did, including my dear old 86 year old mum Andy (bless her, she's got advanced parkinsons and lewy body dementia) and she loved it too.

If you don't live in the UK or any of the countries of the Commonwealth, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or the Overseas UK Territories, would you like to get some idea of what we all got up to? Want to be a fly on the wall and take a look for yourself?

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

In the village of Halberton in Devon where my family and I live, a special Diamond Jubilee Concert led the four day celebrations followed by a four day Flower Festival in our local Church – St Andrews, a Hog Roast and Beacon lighting and a Tea Party which ended up in the Village Hall due to the weather deteriorating. That's England for you.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee
The Queen's Diamond JubileeMuch fun was had by all as you will see from the pictures. Let's start with the concert where locals were drafted in to entertain. My dear old uncle Johnny played the keyboard (not bad for 90 eh?) The concert was an absolute joy and set a high standard for the rest of the celebrations.  You may have already heard my daughter Jess reciting a Diamond Jubilee poem we made up, Easy Viral PDF Brander

want to see Jess and her friends recite the poem in a previous blog post.

The Queen's Diamond JubileeThe Queen's Diamond JubileeNext was the Flower Festival at our local church, St Andrew's. Beautiful church and what an exhibition. So many wonderful floral arrangements including a hand made tapestry depicting places of interest in and around Halberton (you'll see mum and Jess in those pictures).

The Queen's Diamond JubileeThe Queen's Diamond JubileeThen came the Hog Roast and Beacon lighting and that was great as around 300 people from the village and surrounding areas turned out. (I'm beside the bonfire in one picture and my good friends from childhood are in another). The Beacon lighting was one of the 4000 official Beacons to be lit around the UK with Her Majesty The Queen lighting the one in London. The weather held and the beacon was enormous. There was a really happy atmoshphere amongst the villagers and the night was an enormous success. We all wished we didn't have to wait for a Jubilee to have this kind of fun.

Finally came the village tea party and because the weather was bad, it had to be held in the Village Hall.  Large numbers turned out and it was a fun afternoon, nevertheless. Our former post-mistress had made a huge Diamond Jubilee cake and it was delicious. To top of the afternoon, the children were all given a Diamond Jubilee commemorative mug so went off happily.

I hope my post has given you a flavour of what we all did over the Diamond Jubilee. It was a very special time and I've never known anything quite like it. Even the Golden Jubilee wasn't quite so spectacular. I'm sure you watched some of the celebrations on the TV. I'd love to hear your comments so please leave them below. Many thanks.

Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee Poem

Marking 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign, Diamond Jubilee events are being held throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, the Commonwealth and UK Overseas Territories over the long weekend from 2nd to 5th June 2012.

What Are The Royal Family Doing For The Queen's Diamond Jubilee?

No doubt you've already seen on TV – the Royal party at Epsom for the Derby on Saturday 2nd June, on the River Thames in London along the 7 miles on the Royal Barge with 1000 vessels in the flotilla on Sunday 3rd June, the forthcoming concert at Buckingham Palace organised by Gary Barlow on Monday 4th June, the Jubilee Beacons where over 4000 beacons will be lit by communities throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, the Commonwealth and the UK Overseas Territories on Monday 4th June with the Queen lighting one in London, then the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral in London on Tuesday 5th June followed by a processsional route by carriage to Buckingham Palace for the Royal party to appear on the balcony with an RAF fly-past to follow.

What Are The Rest Of Us Doing?

So much going on and entire communities celebrating together and where I live in Devon in the South West of England, a special Diamond Jubilee musical concert was held in the Village Hall (Sat 2nd June) to celebrate the 60 year reign of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Amongst the many musical items performed by members of the community ranging in age from 9 to 90, a poem in tribute  was recited by my daughter Jess and her friends. Here goes:

Lettres De Motivations Géniales

g>The Halberton Diamond Jubilee Poem

They gathered together in the Village Hall
Jubilee celebrations for one and all
2012 is the Jubilee year
Villagers came from far and near

To celebrate the reign of our glorious Queen
60 years on the throne she’s been”
“God Save Our Gracious Queen,” we sing
No one we hold in higher esteem

Talented artists from the community performed
They sang, they played, recitals and more
They raised the roof to joyous applause
In the Village Hall for this 'Royal' cause

To all who attended this community evening
Wonderful entertainment that raised the ceiling
The community spirit brought us closer together
At this Diamond Jubilee – 60 years – Remember!

To Terry who organised this incredible event
Our grateful thanks, we’re delighted it meant….
…So much to so many, what a wonderful mix
For the folks who’ve enjoyed this basket of tricks

To sum up what was a memorable night
We toast our Queen, so deserving and right
We'll remember her well, for all she's done
We celebrate her reign, a very long one

So farewell dear friends as we part and go
What fun we had and OH…..what a show
So off to eat, for more is in store
It’s not over yet, there’s more for us all

Let’s meet again at the Jubilee Tea
The Hog Roast, the Church, YES – You and Me!
The weekend is full with much to do
So lets get together and celebrate through

If you've enjoyed this short poem I wrote, I'd welcome your comments. Many thanks. Lindsey.

PS. Lots more happening so if you want to get a flavour of what us Brits are up to, then stay tuned. There's a beacon lighting tonight at 10.30pm then tomorrow it's the whole village Tea Party in the Rec or Village Hall if raining. I'll try and get some pictures out.

Internet Entrepreneurship – My Journey To Joining The Ranks

Internet Entrepreneurship – Property Development Is Where My Entrepreneurial Journey Began

Internet Entrepreneurship

Hugh Riding Doris On The Farm

It started a few years ago when I attended a weekend course in London on how to buy property for the ‘buy-to-let’ market. To become a property owner and landlady, finding properties with the right criteria in areas of high rental demand, with good potential for capital growth and just as importantly, to learn how to avoid the pitfalls.

At the time, friends and family thought I was crazy to consider such a scheme but since then, my husband Hugh and I have bought several properties in different locations in England. We had to develop some of these properties ourselves which has been quite a departure from our dairy farm that Hugh was running at the time and my job in new business development for an advertising agency. We did love farming and the way of life and the freedom and quality of the lifestyle we had.

Internet Entrepreneurship – The Farm Had To Go

But in 2001 we had to give up and leave the farm.  BSE (otherwise known as Mad Cow Disease and yes, we did have  a cow with BSE sadly) AND the dreaded Foot & Mouth Disease put paid to that and we had to sell our most precious dairy herd that Hugh had bred very carefully. The cow that Hugh is sitting on was called Doris and she would let us ride her (that’s not an optical illusion or clever photo-shop – Doris was a real Fresian and gave loads of milk). Hugh then spent the next three years travelling the world engineering before opening a business selling hot tubs in our home town whilst I worked in a new job I’d found in marketing in a further education college nearby.  We moved in with my mum as an interim plan while we figured out where we wanted to live in the long-term.

Internet Entrepreneurship – The Hot Tub Shop Had To Go

An unscrupulous supplier and a faltering economy saw Hugh’s dream shatter and the hot tub shop had to go. Problems caused by the economic downturn coupled with non delivery of pre-ordered, pre-paid goods from the supplier meant the business wasn’t viable. We didn’t just lose our business, we lost a lot of our savings into the bargain. Our mistake was to be too trusting resulting in our supplier playing some very dirty tricks on us.  We’d assumed that others would be honest like us.

Internet Entrepreneurship – Hugh Started A New Business

Ever the optimist, Hugh started another business as a swimming pool and hot tub engineer, moving into exciting areas of sustainable energy which he’s currently doing. He’s in huge demand and has finally reached a career that he can feel confident in keeping. He’s repairing equipment but he’s also working on new builds (swimming pools mostly) which he loves.  While all this has been happening, I was heavily into my marketing role but towards the end of 2010, was made redundant with 100 or so colleagues during enforced governmental budgetary cuts due to the economic downturn. This came as something of a shock I have to say. Never in my life had anything like this every happened to me.  Employers had always negotiated better terms to keep me, appreciating my loyalty and conscienciousness and the quality of my work with many ending up as friends – so being made to go was something that was alien to me.

Internet Entrepreneurship – Being Made Redundant From A J.O.B Was A Blessing In Disguise

I was horrified at being made redundant but soon realised it had been a blessing in disguise. It didn’t take me long to work out that there was no way I’d ever go back to working for a boss who called the shots. Someone who didn’t appreciate the fact that I consistently over-delivered on targets and objectives and who didn’t appreciate me. I never wanted my family life compromised ever again by being at the beck and call of a J.O.B.  I was never able to drive my daughter to school or other things that many parents take for granted.  I was also looking after my elderly invalid mum making sure my caring duties didn’t affect my job. All in all, my family could never be my number one priority because of my job and I can’t believe I stayed stuck in the employee ‘rut’ for so long. Mindless. What was I thinking of? I was brainwashed and I’m not proud of that.

Internet Entrepreneurship – I’d Have To Find A Solution

So to be made redundant was a wake up call and I knew I’d have to find a solution and I just knew I’d find my answer on the Internet. It was a gut feeling. And I did find the answer on the Internet. You know something like 2 billion people are searching the Internet everyday looking for goods, services and solutions. So it was the obvious choice. It’s the way everything is going now. It was a no-brainer.

Internet Entrepreneurship – I Got Lucky, I Found PRO U

Internet EntrepreneurshipWith the skills I already had I knew I wanted my own business so I was answerable to nobody but myself and it had to be a business that would fit around my family commitments. These were my priorities.  I also knew I’d need a good Internet marketing education and that’s when I found PRO U, the premier online business mentorship company for individuals aspiring to become online entrepreneurs. And what’s great is that PRO U have since become the number one incubator for many of the successful online entrepreneurs today. A variety of world-renowned experts, best-selling authors, gurus, business and thought leaders deliver mentorship to thousands of members in over 200 countries and I feel very lucky to be one of them!

Starting out on my own as a newbie to Internet marketing in October 2010 and finding PRO U was the perfect solution. The leaders of the company are teaching me everything I need to know about Internet marketing from basic and intermediate right through to advanced techniques and strategies along with the essential mindset skills needed to be successful. They provide all the custom built websites, business systems, tools, resources and support necessary to set up and run a business on the Internet.

Internet Entrepreneurship – Being Mentored By The Top Earners Of PRO U Is So Powerful

What an incredible learning curve it continues to be as I tune into the many live webinars, recordings and training sessions with the leaders, all of whom have achieved in excess of a minimum of $1 million in sales (in order to become a mentor) and I attend live events worldwide where we get to mastermind with these highly successful professionals (the top guns as I like to call them) that I’m being mentored by. Take a look at the most recent event I attended by clicking here (I went to Costa Rica in April 2012).

Vital to my own success is the mentorship I’m getting where the leaders are guiding me on the same path they’re treading in front of me, effectively showing me the way, thereby eliminating the possibility to stray off in the wrong direction (there’s loads of those for sure!). It’s  the most exciting challenge I’ve ever faced, running my own business on the Internet and I’m keen to share what I’ve learnt with others following in my footsteps.

So if like me, you are looking for a positive shift in your life, then why not take a closer look at PRO U. It’s been life-changing for so many of us and could be just the answer to your problems too.

Work From Home Mum Gives 5 Top Tips On How To Be Effective When Juggling Work And Family

Work From Home Mum

Are You Juggling Work And Family?

These days I’m a work from home mum but it wasn’t always like that for me. I used to be one of the millions of people going off to the daily grind of a traditional job working for a boss, dependent on someone else for my monthly paycheck.

I have a family to look after including my husband, my daughter and my elderly invalid mother and between them, they all have complex needs, particularly my mum (see for yourself here). Then there’s our dog, he’s a border collie so needs a lot of exercise each day.

It was a juggling act fitting my family commitments around the demands of a full time job. At times, I felt like I was a hamster on a treadwheel going faster and faster and the worst part was not being around when my family needed me most. If you’re juggling family responsibilities with a job, then you’ll know what this feels like.

Not being able to do a simple thing like take my daughter to school seemed like a violation of my rights as a parent. But now that I’m a work from home mum running my own online marketing business, I can do these things and I have quality of life and we all benefit. I can be around when I’m needed and it makes a huge difference.

Since I found what I consider is the very best new online business that I run from home, if my daughter needs collecting from school, I don’t have those panicky feelings of how I’m going to get the time off work, I can decide for myself.

Whether you work in a traditional job or you are a work from home mum like me, you’re going to have all sorts of challenges to face, so I’ve put together 5 of my main tips that should help you keep on top of things.

Tip 1: Work From Home Mum Explains The Need to Prioritise

Prioritise: Learn to prioritise to make sure all the important things get done. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make a list. Have lists for daily tasks relevant to your business, shopping, events etc. They really do make a difference and keep you on track. If you write a list, chances are you won’t wake up in the night in a panic. I live by my lists and it’s amazing how much you can achieve in a day by using a simple list.

Tip 2: Work From Home Mum Needs To Explain The Importance Of Motivation

Motivation: This is something that only you can do and without it, you won’t get much done. Make sure you do whatever is necessary to put yourself into the right frame of mind. If you know what you want to achieve and you know how to achieve it then add in a reward when reaching certain goals and that should keep you motivated. I reward myself by taking my dog Ben up on the canal banks in the beautiful Devon countryside where I live. You might like to take a look here to see how lovely it is.

Tip 3: Work From Home Mum Explains The Need For Sleep

Sleep: Make sure you get the right amount of sleep your body needs. Avoid coffee or alcohol last thing if possible. Take a bath and find a good book. With the right amount of sleep you are more productive and will cope better overall. Without enough sleep it’ll be amazing if you can focus and concentrate well enough to get anything done. Believe me, I know.

Tip 4: Work From Home Mum Explains The Need For Daily Exercise

Exercise: The best way to start your day is with some exercise. I recommend a brisk walk or jog for thirty minutes and get your heart rate going. It’ll wake you up properly, you’ll feel supercharged and you’ll be surprised at how much more productive your day will be. The first ten days doing this will be hard but once you get into the habit, it will become easy and you’ll want to do it automatically. Once your habit takes hold, there’ll be no stopping you.

Tip 5: Work From Home Mum Explains The Importance To Prepare

Prepare: Always plan in advance and prepare yourself for the day ahead. If you fail to do this, you’ll end up creating more work in the long run and you’ll be far less productive. Have you ever noticed that some days you seem to get nothing done? That’s usually due to lack of preparation.

If you are thinking of becoming a work from home mum or you already are one and want to take a look at what I’m doing, then click on this link. It will take you to a free webinar where you’ll meet my mentor and Internet genius and he’ll explain the three key elements to being successful online. Whatever you decide to do, I hope my 5 tips will help you as much as they help me.

Internet Entrepreneurship – Mid Life Crisis Was A Blessing In Disguise

Life doesn’t always turn out as you expect, but even when everything went wrong with my career and I experienced what I thought was my mid life crisis and I needed a career change, Pro-U offered me a solution which has turned my life around!

Just over 18 months ago towards the end of 2010, out of the blue I was made redundant from my job as a Marketing and Schools’ Liaison Officer at a Further Education college in the South West of England. I was one of around 100 that we’re made redundant that year, others before me had suffered the same fate in previous years and others have since – due to ongoing budget cuts in the downturn in our global economy.

I’d spent a lot time advising students on the importance of transferable skills and flexibility with careers, and suddenly I found this advice applying directly to me! I’d told them that whilst the majority of our forebears had the luxury of one career throughout their lifetime, this day and age was different and many of us could expect to change careers several times.

In a dismal job market, I realised that it could be extremely difficult for me to find a new job, and besides, I’d had enough of working for a boss from 9-5, ending up putting my work before my family, almost always – can you blame me? So, I took the plunge, and became my own boss. So what I thought was a mid life crisis actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise

Pro-U has been instrumental in transforming my life. Pioneered by the wildly successful Jay Kubassek, Pro-U is a mentoring scheme, providing members with more than 10 hours of live training a week in varying areas of leadership and marketing. Members can access a myriad of tools, coaching sessions, resources, webinars and more, and it’s an ideal online education platform where you can learn at your own pace, meet likeminded individuals and above all, to live your life as you please. Why is that? The opportunities with online marketing are limitless, and Pro-U helps give you the relevant skills, tools and support that you need to be successful.

I met Jay and other top industry leaders at an event in Costa Rica recently, you can take a look here if you like. What an awesome experience that was!

So what do you have to do?

New users are entitled to a free webinar to see what this is all about. Just click here to organise this at a time that suits you, where you can learn from Jay Kubassek himself. He’s helped thousands of people over the years to become successful online, and if you’ve come to a crossroads in your life just as I did, then perhaps this is an opportunity for you to start something new!

Pro-U offer various packages based on the metaphorical ‘mountain’ of online success – Gear Up, Base, Ascent, Summit & Peak – to suit your own needs in terms of levels of mentorship and commitment.

Rest assured, you’ll receive a first class education, unparalled opportunities to learn and mix with the best of the best online and an unrivalled skill-set to help you achieve your true potential online.

Pro U can really allow you to live life as you choose, earning the salary you choose! So if you are in a mid life crisis, why not take a leaf out of my book and turn your situation around? If I can do it, so can you.

The Empower Network – Helping Ordinary People Change Their Lives Through Blogging On The Internet

What is the Empower Network?

To put simply, the Empower Network is a viral blogging system, potentially the most powerful viral blogging platform on the Internet, created by two experts and gurus in the field of Internet & Network Marketing.

It was designed to help ordinary people make money through their own individual blogging platforms linked to this highly ranked, highly optimised and frequently searched blog platform, the brainchild of co-founders David Wood and David Sharpe.

The two men, both multi-millionaires, credible individuals and highly respected in the industry, have collaborated to create a system and business opportunity that will empower and enable people from all walks of life and from all countries of the world, to earn what they call 100% commissions that will go directly into their bank accounts instantly.

Yep, you heard that right. No waiting for 4 – 6 weeks waiting for your commission cheque to come through. It’s instant, paid directly into your bank account when a new member signs up.

Many new members have already made huge amounts in commissions, recruiting new members to their teams to ensure ongoing sales, residual commissions and success at  levels never seen inside the industry before.

To say there is a buzz on the Internet, is something of an understatement. The news is exciting and it’s travelling fast.   Over 500 people are signing up daily growing the already total of almost 9,500 enrolled exponentially.

People are blogging about their businesses to promote their goods and services and they’re also promoting the Empower Network platform too or they’re blogging about any topic they choose – essentially piggy-backing on David Wood’s powerful blog bringing increased visitors to their sites resulting in more sales.

It’s really as simple as that.

In a little under two months since the system was launched around the end of October 2011, over $1,000,000 in commissions has been paid out to members with many members recording massive sales including residual commissions, also paid instantly in the form of 100% commissions.

The three simple steps to follow are to 1. Blog Daily, 2. Tell Others and 3. Get Paid.

Why Should You Do It?

Give me one good reason why you shouldn’t be doing it.  Many including me are joining up and for a small starting fee of only $25 per month, you get a ready built blogging site linked to David Wood’s super-charged, super optimised platform including training on the most effective ways to blog and the opportunity to promote Empower Network to others through their banner adverts on each of your blog pages.

Effectively, you buy a business for $25 per month and when you sell just one membership, for  $25 guess what – you’ve got a business for free. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Now that’s powerful stuff don’t you agree?

So in a nutshell, it’s about promoting goods and services through blogging, one of the most effective marketing methods in the age of the Internet and with the power of  social media, your messages go viral in an instant.

Why am I recommending this?

Because the industry has never seen anything like this before and as long as you take consistent action, follow the training and instructions and blog daily, you are going to benefit massively from this.

What if I don’t know anything about Internet marketing or blogging?

Don’t worry, you’ll get access to training to teach you how it’s done.  You don’t have to be a top Internet or network marketer to do this.  What are you waiting for?  Click here now.

So how do I get it?

So all you have to do to find out more is click here.

Women Working From Home Online Need To Understand The Importance of a Blog

I’m one of the ever growing army of women working from home online and any of you more avid readers may recall me over the past few months, discussing the importance of video marketing, webinars, keyword research and other topics. And what is the best method to disseminate this information I hear you ask? Well, I’d have to say through the use of a blog. Never underestimate the importance of a blog as they have to deliver valuable information that will help others gain a better understanding of what it is you are writing about.

I think of my blog as the main hub of my activity on the Internet. Facebook and Twitter among others are great for spreading ‘bites’ of information, but my blog is where it all happens, it’s the root of my network.

Before we start…

So what is blogging? Good question. Blogging has been around for a while online, and many people treat it as their diary, although without the same privacy one might expect from a closed book. Blogs allow people to express their opinions, their thoughts, interact with others, but increasingly now – to express their ideas, which is why people such as myself have caught on to the idea.

Entrepreneurs across the world use their blogs to promote their businesses, raise awareness, show commitment to their customers and to boost their potential. A blog is a very powerful tool.

Here’s how a blog can make a difference to you, whoever you are.

Improving your brand

Forgive me for continually bringing this up, but the fact that I do shows just what the Internet can do for you. Any presence online, as long as it is clearly interlinked (think colour schemes, writing styles etc) will build your brand and increase how noticeable you are. In an increasingly ‘busy’ online space the more active you are the better.

A chance to write more

Many of the other services in a marketer’s toolbox are about getting messages across as quickly and succinctly as possible, whether you’re using tweets, videos, short posts or more. Of course, you don’t want to overdo it, but blogs give marketers significantly more leeway to really go into a topic, demonstrating their knowledge and to give readers a comprehensive insight into that niche.

Gain authority

Some of the ‘bigger’ bloggers are revered widely for really knowing their stuff, and this is because they are using their blogs to their full effect. We’ve all come across these incredible blog posts which always seem to hit the mark, and this makes us set new trust in the blogger, even if, as in most cases, we’ve never met them. Competition is difficult here, but the more you post and the more impressive that content is (we need quality and quantity) then the more of this authority you will find yourself earning.

Be accessible to all

The beauty of blogs is that no particular credentials are needed to view them. This is all about spreading to the masses, and you don’t get a lot more open than a blog. Almost anyone, anywhere in the world can read blogs without the need to sign up to a service, and even if they want to comment on a post, then increasingly there are linkages with services such as Facebook where crucially, readers already have accounts so they can get involved with what’s being written without the need for a cumbersome sign-up process.

Interacting with your readers

Nothing makes you feel so good inside as a positive comment below your latest blog post from a new reader. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear people benefiting from your hard work, and it’s so easy to actually strike up a conversation or even a debate with people below a post. This is the beauty of the Internet today and in many respects, it’s focused on the user and the ability to get involved and interact with content, so blogs are a perfect way to tap into this.

Search Engines

For all of us working online, much of our time is spent trying to adhere to SEO guidelines – search engine optimisation. Think about it. The more blog posts you have across a broad range of subjects within your niche, the more likely you are to get higher up those hallowed search results pages, or ‘rankings’ as they are called, and therefore the more hits you might get on your site as a result.

Competition

Even the least competitive among us are still, in the back of our minds, thinking about how they might just get a few more posts or subscribers than the next person. It’s only natural, and blogging encourages this healthy competition. Competition keeps us on our toes and means that we put more effort into producing quality content, which can surely only be a bonus.

Then how do I do it? It’s not as much of a hardship as you might think. Often, deciding what you want to write about can be the hardest part, but once you’ve settled down in the right mindset, have perhaps done a little research or reading around the topic area, this usually gets you going and before you know it, you’ve written a few paragraphs without too much trouble. Don’t worry too much if you think you have what’s commonly known as writer’s block, it happens to us all. You just need to go away for a while, do something different and start again fresh.

In practical terms, try to get into your own pattern of work. If you’re the kind of person who benefits most from setting aside a certain portion of your day to get the creative juices flowing, then go for that, but if you find you prefer to write on the spur of the moment as ideas come to you, then that’s fine too.

There’s no correct method here, and at the end of the day it’s up to you to think about what will work best for your set of circumstances. A quiet or at least reasonably distraction-free environment will probably help you, so I would suggest putting your mobile phone on silent for a while and turning off all your social media too. In my case, the needs of my family often have to take priority, but once they are sorted and happy, I’m ready to go.

I can’t emphasise enough how great blogging is. Finally, just think about how you are when you’re on the Internet. If you’re anything like me, then you read one article or similar, and then you click on the related links on the side. Before you know it, you’ve been sitting there reading for twenty minutes, and that time had just disappeared in a flash.

People are inquisitive by nature, and with blogs this can only work to your advantage. If like me, you’re amongst the ever-growing army of women working from home these days, hook readers and they’ll be sure to come back for more. Even though blogs are longer than your regular Facebook post, they’re still palatable for short reads, and you can’t ask for more than that really.

If you’ve found my blog post interesting, I’d love you to share it with your friends.  Thanks

Women Working From Home Can Run An Online Business And Look After Their Family And Invalid Parents

There must be millions of women working from home worldwide juggling the demands of a family with the responsibilities and pressures of caring for elderly invalid parents who are no longer able to support themselves through illness.

It is likely too that many of these family groups will be living in the same house reducing any chance of a normal family life for the care givers, with little freedom or choice to come and go or take off for the day spontaneously. In many cases that can’t happen.

Throw all this into the mix and there’s no hiding the fact that it must be a struggle as I know from my own experiences. I don’t deny that it’s a challenging situation to be in but it’s one that I would hope others would find as satisfying as I do.

Helping those people you hold especially dear that have supported you throughout your lifetime and who have never knowingly or deliberately let you down. How could you not do everything in your power to help and provide support thus increasing any chances of quality of life to your loved ones when they need and rely on you most?

It’s heartbreaking to see anyone suffer, let alone a close relative progressively deteriorating through disease to the point where they are no longer able to do anything for themselves, rendering them totally reliant on those that care for them.

How particularly unfair also for the person being cared for who has spent their entire life selflessly serving others, raising their family whilst caring for their invalid parents and running the family business all at the same time, to be then struck so cruelly down upon retirement with a terrible disease that they can never recover from. To my mind, this is a cruel twist of fate and applies to my dear, undeserving mother.

I completely understand the struggle that millions face and would like to encourage those people wondering how they can juggle similar responsibilities, that it is possible to set up and run a business from home. It just boils down to a question of commitment, prioritising and juggling family responsibilities to fit everything in. I’m doing it, others before me have done it and future generations will do it. It’s no big deal.

Until a year ago, I was in a traditional 9 – 5 job working for a boss, dependent on someone else for my paycheck. Then along with a hundred other colleagues, I was made redundant. It was a huge shock at the time but it forced me to look for alternatives and that’s when I found the perfect solution on the Internet.

Because of the opportunity I found, I can make money in my own online home based business because it allows me to be my own boss and work when it suits me. And with the many family priorities I have, it’s happened just at the right time.

Since starting what I consider is a top home based business from home, I’ve had to take stock and prioritise. It’s the only way I can begin to fit everything in. I’m lucky as I have carers that come in for a few hours during the week to help with mum’s care and it’s during these times that I take advantage and shut myself in my office to work. I’ve also got into the habit of working in the evenings once my mum and daughter are in bed. Very often it’s at this time of night that I can be most productive.

The great thing about the Internet is that it operates twenty-four hours each day and it never closes and because I’m working with people from all corners of the world in different time zones, it’s ideal. I can be talking to someone in Australia when it’s their night and my day.

The flexibility of operating a business from home is something I appreciate more than anything. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that if I want to drive my daughter to school I can. If I need to take mum to the doctor I can. Being able to do something you’ve never been able to do is a truly liberating and wonderful feeling.

Believe it or not, it was almost impossible to do these things before. Work almost always got in the way or taking the time off was way too difficult. Asking for time off was a huge barrier to me and any time off work had to come out of my annual leave so was always problematical. So having the freedom and flexibility now is the best thing that could have happened to me, because for the first time in my life, there’s no boss other than myself to ask.

Running an online marketing business from home means so much to me and there’s no way I’d ever consider going back to a traditional 9 – 5 job working for someone else.

Naturally, I’ve had to make some sacrifices along the way in order to find enough time to devote to my business and to focus properly, so watching TV was the first on the list to go.

You’d be surprised how much time is wasted in front of the box. You can get so much more work done when you get out of the habit. I’ve also had to develop other habits to become more productive, one of which is getting up early each morning to get the family sorted before the working day starts.

I find that if I start the day with a half an hour of vigorous exercise, this wakes me right up so I’m super-charged throughout the day and this way, more gets done. This is both easy and pleasant as our family pet dog is a Border Collie called Ben so we head off along the canal banks near my home for a good workout. He’s hard to keep up with.

I’ve surprised myself at how much I can get done now that I’m fully focussed, eliminating time-wasting distractions throughout the day. No longer would I dream of shopping during the daytime or taking time out to have coffee with friends. They all know I’m working and I’m training them all to take my business as seriously as I do.

For me, this is how is has to be right now and my work has to fit around my caring and family priorities. So if you’re a mum and a carer like me, you might want to consider joining the growing army of women working from home and set up your own business. It’s ideal for me and could well be the answer you are looking for too.
